FAQ
What is Sleep on the Floor?
We're a Des Moines, IA based independent label that focuses on creative, artistic and experimental music of all genres and has been releasing music since 2005.
Where is your music available?
Right here at the website. Or if you're in Des Moines, at Zzz Records (2200 Ingersoll Ave) or Mars Cafe (2318 University Ave). Also our catalog is hosted by just about all digital download retailers.
How can I get promotional copies of your releases?
Email us and let us know what publication or website you work for. If we like your style we'll see what we can do.
How much is shipping and handling?
Shipping and handling is $2.00 for orders within the United States and $4.00 for international orders, regardless of quantity. Obviously there's no charge for digital download purchases.
How do the digital album purchases work?
After you buy a digital album, we'll email you a link to download the album in a zip file. Currently we offer flac and mp3 (320kbps and 128kbps) formats. Our mp3s are encoded using LAME version 3.98.3. This isn't an automated process so it could take up to 24 hours for us to email you the link, but usually sooner. Once you get the link, you can choose which format(s) you want to download. If you're concerned with the quality you hear in the streamed versions of the songs, they're encoded at 128kbps so you can more easily win the buffer race. So don't worry :).
How do returns work?
If you received a damaged CD in the mail let us know within one week. In that case we will exchange it for the same CD. Otherwise, all sales are final.
When will I get a release that I preorder?
CDs will ship on or before the release date. We try our best to make sure you get the CD by the release date. For digital albums we'll send you a link to download on or a little before the release date.
I'm interested in working/interning for you. How can I apply?
Please email and let us know. But serious inquiries only. Treat it like a resume and include education, experience, skills, references and creative ideas.
I thought all your releases were free. How come they're not?
All of our releases were free for a good two years or so. But then we decided that to stay in business and keep releasing music we'd have to charge money for some of them.
Do you accept demos?
Yes. Send them to the address above or email us (links are okay but no attachments). Everything sent gets listened to and we do our best to respond to each submission. We try to reply to every email but we get tons and it's hard to separate the spam from the real emails so be specific, realistic and personable.
