Description

Song VIII is the single for Austin May's upcoming full length Dreamlike, and contains three of the most accessible songs in their entirety.  The single starts off with multiple keyboards, over processed guitars and vocals, and closes out with slow paced acoustics and fading female vocals.

Notes

Song VIII contains full mixes of songs from Austin May's full length Dreamlike, which was recorded piecewise in bedrooms, basements and apartments in Pennsylvania and Iowa from 2006 through 2008.  All songs were written, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered by Austin May except for the female vocals in "Song IX (Full)" which were written, performed and recorded by Cassie Semerad.  All artwork was created by Cassie Semerad.

This three-song EP by singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Austin May of Des Moines’ newest indie-rock label Sleep On the Floor offers fans a glimpse of May’s full-length album, “Dreamlike.” The appropriately titled EP barely moves faster than a crawl when it comes to rhythm and tempo, but the sparse, multiple layers of keyboards and processed guitars, sad bastard lyrics, ambient instrumentation and experimental production are more than enough to keep the listener’s mind abuzz. It’s the kind of music you might imagine plays over and over again in the mind of your little hyper brother just after the Ritalin kicks in — high speed, but low drag. If you like art rock, you’ll enjoy “Song VIII,” “Song V (Full)” and “Song IX (Full),” all of which were recorded in bedrooms, basements and apartments. They are a good indication of things to come.
